Black Angel
 

 

Black Angel is the final poem in my poetry chapbook entitled All About Angels (2009). The black angel is modelled on  a sacramental triptych for an altar and was painted by Rogier van der Weyden (Flanders, 1400-1464) between 1445 and 1450. Apparently, the angel in the painting was first photographed and then turned into a 3D figurine. I bought this particular statue in Aldebarán (in Ávila, Spain), and Clare made the movie by photographing our statue against the stone of the fireplace and then placing a sequence of photographic images together with my voice reading to form what we think of as photo poetry. We have illustrated several of my poems with still photos and we will be adding to this sequence over the coming months.
